You can comment here or there.

Katt Williams was arrested for burglary? What the hell?

Anyways, my old phone is but a memory and a hunk of plastic sitting next to me on my desk. Hint for those looking into SmartPhones: Avoid Windows Mobile like it’s Windows ME.

I get why people like touch screens now…They are easy to love when yours isn’t cheap an ineffective. No real complaints so far. Here’s some photos I took with it out and about around Madison this past weekend when the weather was INCREDIBLE. It was in the 70s this weekend and I was in heaven. I haven’t worn a sweater in days.
*Be warned, they’re small as I uploaded them to Twitter….

Downtown Madison from Olin Park:

Awesomely still Halloweeny house way out on the east side:

Awesome record store:

So yeah, varied results. but that first one is damn good with a Camera phone. The second I took while driving…thus moving. Weird. Anyways. That record store is home to MANY awesome used records. My record player should be coming soon, which is great, because I already know I’m going back for even more… yeah, I bought some things. Most notably U2’s Boy. Great album. And the prices are insane. Lots of awesome records for $6.50.

I also saw ‘the Men Who Stare At Goats’ this weekend and while reviews are saying it’s not so hot, I really enjoyed it. It was really entertaining and kept me hooked in throughout. And there were a few REALLY good looking trailers beforehand. Notably Brothers and the new Mel Gibson as an actor flick. I know Mel’s kinda’ gross these days, but I’m hoping he’ll be able to shake the image and get back to making awesome movies I want to see. Not Jesus pictures and weird movies.

Also peeped out Taken on DVD this weekend. Solid movie, well told, well acted, and another one that had its hooks in me throughout. great rent, definitely worthy of a quick Netflixing.

So I’m at target this weekend, perusing, deciding what groceries to buy when I see the Vegan section. Fucking vegans, right? I’ve never been fond of this garden burger, soy burger nonsense and am rarely quiet about it. I’m rarely quiet about anything. Unfortunately for me, though, I’ve never actually tried any of that stuff. I am a red meat consumer. What the fuck am I going to do with soy? But I figured I might as well bite the bullet and at least try it so it’s an informed opinion.

I picked up a four pack of Boca Burgers and declared (internally) this this was FOR SCIENCE. I also picked up some whole wheat ’sandwich thins’ which are like really think hamburger buns. Might as well commit. Tonight was the night. I read around online and found that grilling Boca burgers often leaves them dry tasting, which I don’t want. Everyone suggested microwaving them, which…Really? All this concern about health then nuking the thing? I instead put the smallest amount of olive oil in a frying pan, put it on medium heat and cooked them for about 10 minutes until they looked ‘done.’

Damnit were they good. Tasted like a burger. I’m sure this was because I got the ‘flame grilled’ seasoned ones, but I absolutely plan on continuing to purchase these. All the goodness, none of the fat. Win. And since there’s a Kraft company store here in Madison, I might have to go down there and see what kinda’ deal I can get.

Now I did throw some condiments on mine. A little spicy brown mustard, and a tiny bit of BBQ sauce. That’s how I tend to dress my burger. I wanted to toss some veggies on but I didn’t have anything burger-worthy in the fridge and didn’t stop at the store on the way home. Dress this up with some lettuce and some chopped onion and damnit…Success.

It’s 11…When did that happen? I need to get to getting to bed here pretty soon. I’ve been slowly trying to make a habit of getting to work early…Because that means I leave early and I’m trying to get into that habit by the time snow star starts to fall cause I know it’s going to take quite a bit longer to get there.

As was seen in my last post I can update from my phone, which is kind of a nice touch. Being run on a Google OS I’m also tied into Youtube, so I’ll be able to upload direct to YouTube from the little bastard. Hopefully this’ll lead to more video posts soon. And eventually the videos from moving. Jesus have I ever dropped the ball on that. It’s alright, it’s what I’m good at. AND this has been a pretty substantial update, no?

Moving forward… goodnight.

**Edited to add:
Within five minutes of posting this I got THREE gay sex spam comments I had to delete.

I wonder which part of the post attracted them to my site. Vegetarians or cell phones.

or a George Clooney movie.

When a cell phone you hate. HATE. Decides to stop working even further. Some of you know the divine war I have been at with my cell phone for a year and a half. It’s a piece of fried hell and I will never buy an HTC product again. Starting sometime today it decided it would rather lock up than do, well, ANYTHING. I’ve managed to eek out a call or two and some web browsing but none of that lasts forever and I can’t text or check email at all. It just locks. I went into Verizon at lunch and they said they could send out a replacement…But I said no. You see, that will be my FOURTH one of these. The first three were shit, so sue me if I don’t trust a fourth. However one of the clerks had an advanced Motorola Droid, which streets Friday, and let me fiddle with it a bit. I think I’m in love. The OS is a Google Product and I’ve never been let down by a Google product. Right GMail, GoogleMaps, GoogleEarth, and whatever else I do that is Googled?

So I think I’m going to pick it up Friday. I’d rather have a phone I like that works than another one of these… So I have that to look forward to. In the meantime Texting and Email has become a real problem.

This is it:

Sexy, right?

So through Kevin Smith’s twitter (@ThatKevinSmith) I found a new blog that I’ve found awesomely well-written and quite entertaining. And an insight to the mind of a single female as well. Anyways, Dating Is Miserable is it and you should check it out. Thoroughly entertaining blog.

You can comment here or there.

Hey All-
Alright, day 2 is in the books. I’m currently in Rawlins, WY. this is where the Wyoming Frontier Prison Museum is. I’ll be checking that out in the AM, then hitting a couple other things on the way to Denver, where I’ll go to Casa Bonita for dinner tomorrow night. At this right I MAY very well be in Madison by Friday night or Saturday morning. but I don’t know. We will see… I’m behind, to be honest, but it’s still going faster than I planned. I think I planned too little time for the first half, and too MUCH time for the second half. Today I saw the White King, the world’s largest Polar Bear as well as the great Salt lake…Which was kinda fucked up. It’s so salty.

Yes I tasted the salt.

On the side of the road. :S

So I’m about to jump into some video editing so you can see what I saw, but here’s a little preview to wet your beaks with. THE WHITE KING! (That’s not a racist thing…)

-Chris

LiveJournal Users, can’t see the pic? Click Here.

—–
Edited to add:
So the netbook won’t process my videos right. It only reads them as audio. I’ve looked for solutions but it doesn’t seem to be working. So for now it looks like you’ll have to live with photos. That really bums me out, but it’s out of my hands at this point.

So I’m going to upload a bunch of pics taken so far, from my camera phone…One of you has seen many of these. the rest of you haven’t. tomorrow AM I’ll stop at the drug store and get some GOOD AA batteries fort my digital camera. I will take photos to share with you all and continue to shoot video to edit together once I’m back on my desktop.

So please, stay tuned and comment your little hearts out. Fool me into thinking I’m doing this for SOMETHING. I’m pretty sure I’ll be arriving NEXT Monday, though who knows?

So how about a rundown of the places I’ll be going, seeing?

First up, Reno, NV. I hope to play a little poker here.

After Reno I jump on the road to Elko, NV. Elko is home to the WORLD’S LARGEST POLAR BEAR!

Following Elko I will hightail it all the way to Salt Lake City, UT! While in Salt Lake I plan to check out the Mormon Temple as well as the Gilgal Garden!

From Salt Lake it’s off to Rawlins, Wyoming where I want to check out the Wyoming Frontier Prison Museum. Then a quick shot over to Laramie, WY to see the giant head of Abe Lincoln! My last stop in the great state of Wyoming will be Buford, WY. Buford is home to the Ames Brother’s Pyramid. It’s just a giant pyramid. In Wyoming.

then begins the little bit of relaxation as I am going to spend a day in Denver, CO. in a nice hotel room and take in the city a bit. While there I plan to have a meal at Casa Bonita, the Mexican Restaurant made moderately famous by an episode of South Park!

Then the voyage continues… I move on into Oakley, Kansas to get a look at Prairie Dog Town, home of a six legged cow for one reason or another. Once I calm my stomach from what will surely be disturbing, I’ll move on into Cawker City, KS…AKA home of the WORLD’S LARGEST BALL OF TWINE! I’m actually REALLY excited about this one. Because I’m lame.

Once I’m done in Kansas, I head into Nebraska. Specifically Hastings, NE where I will visit the birth place of Kool Aid. They even have their own Kool Aid museum! I hope to have cherry or grape. Then it’s east to Ashland, NE where I will visit the Strategic Air and Space Museum to check out rockets and what not! How cool is this all going to be?! My final stop in Nebraska is going to be Omaha, NE where I am going to partake in a fine Omaha steak and if I have time, check out the world’s largest Ball of Stamps.

I then head into Iowa to check out the Ax Murder House in Villisca, Iowa. That should be sufficiently creepy. Then to make things creepier I will be heading to West bend, IA to check out the Grotto of the Redemption…Which looks fucking spooky. As my trip wraps up I make my way into Riverside, IA…Otherwise known as the Future Birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise. This town LOVES themselves some Star Trek.

After that it looks like I’m headed right into Madison, WI to start living.

Remember to keep your eyes peeled for updates from the road as I go. This is going to be exciting!

That’s all for now!

Super Secret Unemployment Diary 9: Adrian’s Revenge!

Originally published at Haynerfide. You can comment here or there.

Dear Diary,
Well, what a long, strange trip it’s been! I haven’t updated since pre-Transformers 2. Boy was that ever a different time! Back when I had hope for that movie. I’m moved now…For now…I’m in Stockton until beginning of August, and then I’m off to the land of cheese and beer and Packer fans. I’m stoked for two of those things. Can you figure out the third, diary?

I’ve been doing a lot to keep busy of late. I’ve been making videos, as you’ve seen, I’ve also been going out into the world…Which is pretty fun! I went to a museum yesterday. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid. it felt a lot smaller, but the mummy was still there! It was awesome.

Isn’t that crazy? You’re right, diary, it IS crazy. I’m having quite a bit of fun here but I have to say I’m getting really anxious to skeedaddle. I’m ready to just get on with it. This month of waiting feels like I’m spinning my wheels, but I know that it’s a necessary evil in an effort to get the money situated that’s needed for the big move. Especially since I’m taking my sweet ass time to get to Wisconsin. What with all the stops I’m making, it’s adding almost a thousand miles onto the trip. it’s going to be incredible and I’d just like to do it. Now. First, though, I need to sell off most of the stuff I own. If it doesn’t fit in the car, it’s not making the trip. Unless I decide to ship a few smaller things.

I have to say I’m also pretty stoked to have some new land to explore. I explore and adventure, it’s what I like to do…And I’ve more or less done all the adventuring and exploring I can do in this area…Save for the Winchester Mystery House, which I’m planning to go to before I leave.

I’m just rambling now, but really, that’s what this is for, isn’t it?

I must say I find editing video oddly comforting. I think it’s along the same lines as when I get really into writing web code. It’s something I can just dig into and turn off the outside world. Just turn music on and leave me with a computer and I can get lost for hours at a time. And there’s an end product when I’m done! And it’s not going to always be an entertaining end product, but I’m trying to build up some manner of skill and I have a fun time doing it.

Oh yeah, and Michael Jackson died. There’s revolt in Iran…but you won’t hear about that. And I love Michael Jackson, I really do…but people…the world is not in great shape. Let’s focus on things we can actually try to FIX, shall we?

Alright diary…I think that’s all for now. I’ll check back in soon.
xoxo
Chris

What’s insane is how much I was looking forward to this movie. Johnny Depp IS John Dillinger? It’s a brilliant plan! And Michael Mann makes good movies, doesn’t he? And the supporting cast is BADASS. Okay, so I just wiki’d Michael Mann and boy was I wrong. He made the AWFUL Miami Vice remake.

Anyways…I have good news and I have bad news.

The good news is first…And there’s a lot of it. This is an excellent movie. It’s just great. The acting is awesome. Everyone is really good. the story is great (Based on a really good book), and to that end the movie is a big winner.

The bad news… Well, the bad news is the movie looks like shit. the camera work is awful, Michael Mann’s use of digital instead of film is really just not good… He’s got to figure out when and when not to go to a close up… Close ups on extreme movement are revolting. the camera angles were poorly chosen and really were to the detriment of the movie. Had there been a cinematographer who could make this movie LOOK good, I would have adored this movie. because everything abotu it is well made…Except for the camera work.

And PLEASE, for the love of god…Can we stop shooting these big budget fuckers on digital? it cheapens it. Make your super huge epic space pictures on digitsal, fine. but this movie is about John Dillinger, the last of the great bank robbers from the 30s and 40s. Digital? Are you high?

5/10

Sop Ben is a pussy and my letter is K. Let's roll!

So here are the rules, as I understand them:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

1. Kiss - Prince
<lj-embed id="31" />
Prince - Kiss - Watch more Pop Videos at Vodpod.

Prince used to kick so much ass.......

2. Kite - U2
<lj-embed id="32" />

this is my absolute favorite performance of this song. And one of my favorite performances in general. I've teared up over this thing, and I don't care who knows about it.

3. Keep A Song In Your Soul - Red Nichols and his Five Pennies
<lj-embed id="33" />

this isn't the original performance, but I love Red Nichols and I love this song.

4. King of Pride Rock - Hans Zimmer
<lj-embed id="34" />

Yeah, it's from Lion King. But this is, honest to God, such an awesome piece of music. This track itself tells a really awesome little story.

5. (the) Kids Are Alright - the Who
<lj-embed id="35" />

How many years later? Still holds right the hell up.

You're lucky I'm stopping now.

You can comment here or there.

So I’m laying in bed trying to sleep but my mind is racing. You see, I’m about to up and drive halfway across the country and recently everyone has been telling me how they are convinced my car won’t make it. And them saying that is starting to influence me. Then suddenly an opportunity arose where I can buy a car in excellent running condition rather cheap before I make my voyage. And I was going to do it. I had it figured out where I would be able to pay the car off over a period of three months and still have money to live. But as I sit here I’m thinking back to the very first thing I told myself after I was laid off, I want to get out from under my small mound of debt. It’s rather daunting to have that hanging over your head. And with my severance package and unemployment checks, I had it all worked out where I WOULD be able to get out from under debt. However if I go ahead with this car purchase…That suddenly won’t happen.

So I think I’ve decided not to. Now how do I explain to someone as close to me as family that I’ve changed my mind? I really hope she understands, after all she is the one I talk to about how I wish to rid myself of credit card debt.

Fuck… i really need some sleep. Hopefully now that I have all of this down it will remove itself from my mind. but man oh man getting my car over the Colorado Rockies is going to be a pill.

We’ll see how tomorrow goes…

Alright, back to bed. I’m going to try to get a Public Enemies review up tomorrow, as I saw it this evening.

It’s been a while. I’m sorry, but I’ve been really busy. Remember how I’m moving? Well I have to be out of my apartment THIS WEEK! So soon, right? It’s been kind of a roller coaster couple of weeks and I’m here to say it’s about to pick up. I’m trying to figure out how to keep updates going while I’m on the road from California to Wisconsin. I’m working on fixing my laptop. I’m hoping to post video, picture, AND diary updates from the road. I’m testing out video on my phone to see if it’s worth trying. If so this should all work wonderfully.

Well, I just tested it out and nada. The quality is for shit. Maybe I can find a flip on the cheap? I just want to get video onto the site here throughout the trip.

Transformers 2 is this week! I’m SO excited, Diary! I’m going late tomorrow night!

I’m moving into a guest room at a friend’s house for the month of July to prep for the big trip. Exciting, no?

Well Diary, I really should get back to the mess around here. More soon!

xoxo

Well, it’s about time. I have to say I’ve been waiting for this. No, not reviewing The Hangover…which I’m ALSO DOING! But it’s about time Zach Galifianakis is showcased how he should, a legitimate comedic talent. How has this dude not been a huge movie star yet? His stand up is hilarious. HE is hilarious. I’m glad he got this shot in something that will be seen by many people, whereas in the past he was that ‘underground’ comedian most people weren’t familiar with. Do you have Netflix? go grab the Comedians of Comedy on Netflix Instant Watch. As well as his solo performance.

Anyways, the Hangover. Bachelor Party in Vegas goes terribly wrong and three buddies lose the groom. they fight through their blackout hangover to try to figure out what, exactly, happened the night before.

Strippers, the asian gangsters, cops, Mike Tyson…All kinds of stuff stand in the way of them getting to their lost friend.

This movie is very funny, guys. Really. And it’s not funny in the same vein as the typical Apatow-fueled comedy we’ve seen of late. See, this one is from the folks who did Old School. And it shows.

The cast (Headed by Galifianakis, Ed Helms from the Office, and Bradley Cooper from Wedding Crashers) is priceless. The three play well together as the driving force behind this movie. throw Justin Bartha (Nic Cage’s sidekick from the national treasure flicks) as the lost groom, and you’ve got a four-pack of funny guys in the middle of a very funny movie.

Honors for breakout star of the movie belong to Galifianakis, though. he’s funnier than anyone has the right to be.

You can comment here or there.

Dear Diary-
What a week it’s been. Pretty exhausting, I must say. First up, last Monday I went for a nice little drive, exploring northeast of my place. I ended up in Jamestown at some sort of railroad museum. Unfortunately by the time I got there it was closed so I didn’t get to see much. Then there was Tuesday. My plan was to go to the gym and then spend the day playing Prototype, a new XBox game…

Unfortunately that all went out the window when I got a call from my neighbor. Grandpa Don (his grandfather, who honestly felt like EVERYONE’S grandfather) had just passed and he was en route to a hospital here in Modesto. His mom and Nana were already there. So I told him I was on my way and jumped into the car. I’d just seen Grandpa Don the previous Wednesday at Randall’s 4th birthday party and it was a fun day for all.

So I get to the hospital…I hate hospitals so much. Sadness all around, which is to be expected. Soon everyone moves to Nana’s house where I end up spending the majority of the day…And a chunk of the next day. Then Friday was the memorial. After words it was essentially a giant party over at Nana’s. So many people showed up. Way more than they were expecting, which was incredible.

As Friday night set in I made my way out to Stockton to my neighbor’s house for another night of Beer Pong and just kinda’ decompressing from the week. That led into Yesterday where I was in Stockton most of the day and had Taco Truck but then came home. I’m glad to be home. I slept very well last night. And I haven’t been to the movies in over a week now. Crazy.

I think that’s about all. I’ll check in with happier stuff (and a review of The Hangover, I promise) soon. Maybe even TODAY.

You can comment here or there.

Dear Diary-
I know it’s only been a couple days but I’m bored and felt like writing a few things down. As I mentioned last time, I’ll be moving soon. Isn’t that crazy? This coming week I have to give notice to all of my utilities so they turn off once I leave.

I’ll be staying at my neighbor’s in Stockton. There’s a nice room waiting for me to invade it. Since before the house was even purchased Randall has been referring to it at Uncle Chris’s room, so I guess it’s fated, right Diary?

A buddy of mine named Bryan Wilson played in a street hockey tournament this weekend with Kevin Smith (he makes movies and things). I know that doesn’t really seem related to me at all, Diary, however I kinda’ sponsored his ass.

Yeah, diary…You read that right. I sponsored Wilson’s ass. I’ll be making a nice little donation to Breast Cancer Research, but look what I got in return:

Isn’t that just crazy? I’m taking you international, Diary. That was in Canada. What started as a joke, ends up making me laugh…A LOT!

I played Beer Pong for the first time last night, Diary. And I had a very rare hangover today. Luckily after a nice little couch nap this afternoon, I was feeling quite alright. Then again, maybe that’s why I’m not tired. Naps…Damn them. I love them so.

You know what, Diary? I’m listening to Loveline for the first time in a long time right now. Daniel Tosh is the guest co-host and he’s really funny. He’s simply ridiculing everyone who calls in. Good for him.

Alright Diary, I think that’s all for now.

Terminator Salvation: Reviewish.

Originally published at Haynerfide. You can comment here or there.

Better late than never, right? Terminator: Salvation is a continuation of one of the seemingly many Terminator timelines. I have no idea which one. The one where Batman leads the resistance against the machines, I think.

Anyways, in this movie Judgment Day has happened, it’s a thing of the past, and it’s the big bad war that the T movies always warned us about. People and Machines, fucking KILLING EACH OTHER. WITH GUNS. AND CLEVERNESS!

There’s two stories going on in this movie. The first sees John Connor trying to find Kyle Reese (His future dad/past dad/present dad) before the machine’s do because he’s on their kill list. You see, if they kill Kyle Reese he can’t go back in time and get down with Sarah Connor, thus creating John Connor, thus creating the savior against the machines. The OTHER story (and, honestly, the GOOD story) is Kyle Reese trying to find his way to the Resistance headquarters with his little mute buddy, and mysterious stranger.

Eventually the two stories meet.

Alright, first thing’s first. Bryce Dallas Howard is completely WASTED in this movie as John Connor’s wife. Remember when she was played by Claire Danes and was actually interesting? Of course you don’t, none of you saw T3 and for that you should be stoned. With rocks, not weed.

I payed attention, not ONCE did they use the chick’s name as far as I recall. Why wouldn’t they address his wife by name? Because her character doesn’t matter in this movie. She’s background fodder. Hey look, she’s pregnant, John had better live to be a daddy!

Unfortunately I wouldn’t want him as a daddy, because Christian Bale is…Well, BORING in this. For someone who exploded and yelled at some crew dude, you’d think there would be some emotion in his role. Unfortunately there’s isn’t much. This shit works for Batman, but this is JOHN CONNOR. Machine’s have been trying to skin this kid ALL OF HIS LIFE. Emote, you welsh bastard.

Take some lessons from your dad, Kyle Reese. Anton Yelchin plays Kyle Reese and KILLS it. You may know him as Chekov from Star Trek…Or maybe Charlie Bartlett from Charlie Bartlett or the kid who gets dead in Alpha Dog. This kid is going to be a huge star. Write that down.

In fact Kyle Reese and the mysterious stranger (played by Sam Worthington) are the only really shining parts of the cast. Looking back on the movie now, a week or two removed, it really has a lot of flaws. However, Yelchin and Worthington made it worth it for me. Those two were spot on.

If you’re got time to kill, go ahead and see Up!

Stick to DVD for this one.

5/10 — And that’s only because of Anton Yelchin and Worthington. I would love to see a movie with THEIR characters and no Christian Bale.

Big things are happening. It’s been a bit. First and foremost, I have TWO movie reviews I want to get up this week. Terminator: Salvation, and UP in Disney Digital THREE DEE! So expect those soon…I don’t think there’s anything out this week that I want to see.

Randall’s birthday is tomorrow, Diary. He’s turning FOUR years old! It should be exciting all around!

My brother, David, is officially a high school graduate. I’m really proud of him, Diary. The ceremony was last Wednesday and it was so cool to see him walk in the cap and gown. And I got the picture I wanted.

That’s my neighbor, my brother, and I. And look at David, Diary, look how happy he is! And shit have I ever let myself go this last month. I need to get on that, man.

This has been a weird time for me, as I’m sure you can understand. So much uncertainty and I really don’t know what to do next and all. Well some clarity has come about. Remember Ben and Erin? I mentioned them in my last entry. They are my super cool Wisconsin friends. They have been ever so gracious and are opening their home with an awesome basement to me in an effort to make a rather big life change. I’m moving, Diary! How fucked up is that?

I gave 30 days notice to my apartment complex today! I’ll be staying in Stockton for July, then moving to Wisconsin come August! I hope no one dies in the process. That’s all I’m saying.

Okay Diary, I should go for now. But movie reviews are coming and I’m trying to fix the stupid not working uploading of images. I hate you sometimes, WordPress.

xoxo
